Cider House Passage looking through to Broad Street, Taylor’s Hall (centre) and to the right the Raglan Concert Hall which burned down in 1871.
Above is an 1830’s advert for the White Swan in Broad Street which was one of several taverns grouped around Cider House Passage, including the Post Office Tavern, the Brandy Cask and the Cider House Tavern. James Doughty and his two sons later ran the Cider House Tavern where they set up a successful concert room. James Doughty died in 1856.
